Have you ever had frustrations on how to manage your class behavior or have had class management strategies lose there luster? Have we lost focused on Character Education and has it fell by the wayside? Teachers can struggle to find the balance between teaching the curriculum while creating a good learning environment. Students need to do the right thing in and out of the class and ClassDojo may be a solution for you. The great aspect is that ClassDojo is managed on the computer and also with mobile devices!
Take a look at this introduction video from their website:
I had a wonderful conversation with one of ClassDojo’s start up guys, Sam Chaudhary. Sam was a teacher, and subsequently worked in the education practice of consultancy firm McKinsey & Co in London. He shared that ClassDojo is currently in Beta, but is growing fast. Their vision is to create a tool that helps teachers manage good character behavior in the classroom. Sam mentioned that ClassDojo is based on research on character education.
The conversation also consisted of Sam and Liam’s vision for ClassDojo and some of the features that they are excited about. The nice part about talking with Sam, besides his british accent, was his willingness to listen to teachers. Personally, I was especially impressed with his openness for suggestions and feedback. I shared with Sam some of the ideas that I had in mind from a teacher standpoint and he received them with enthusiasm. Its nice to see two entrepreneurs seeking suggestions and feedback from their current and potential customers.
ClassDojo can be managed on your computer, on your smartphone or a mobile device like your iPad. You create your class roster with ease and then you can start managing your students with both positive and negative feedback. Positive feedback for behaviors such as helping others, participation and hard work. For negative feedback you have your traditional behaviors like no homework, talking and disrespect. What is great also is that you can add your own behaviors to customize your room management. Students get positive points and feedback for positive behavior and negative points for their not so good behavior. These results can then be calculated into reports to share with students and parents.
Sam mentioned there are more exciting features to come!
I know I will be continuing to use ClassDojo this week and the weeks to come to help me manage a good learning environment within my classroom while building good character.
So do the right thing and give ClassDojo a try and contact Sam and Liam to support them with feedback and encouragement.
