Fall Report Card Time
——————————————————————–
It is report card time and the results are in. For the most part we have done well as a class. There are some standards we have mastered and are experts on and others we still need to work on. The first grading period is spent in reviewing third grade skills and building upon them with some fourth grade standards. So grades are generally good this grading period. If you need to discuss the report card or for any other reason you can email me! Once I receive your email I will respond to find a day that works for both you and I. In the envelopes going home today you will find these items:
- Report Card
- ELL Assessment Scale (For English Language Learners)
- Language! Addendum (if you are in Language! Reading Intervention)
- Signature Page (This is to be signed and returned to class)
- Any IEP and/or Speech information (for students who are with IEPs and in Speech)
Please review these items and discuss some new goals for the next grading period.
The next grading period will become more of a challenge. As we continue on with our stories and math chapters, the information we will cover will become difficult as the subject matter will be new. If you were paying attention and developing good study and work habits the first grading period then the information we have already covered will help you with the new upcoming information. In my experience, students grades do take a drop in the second grading period due to the fact that the work and content gets more challenging. Keep working hard, pay attention and ask questions and you will do fine.
Looking forward to moving ahead in the next grading period as we move into double digit multiplication, long division and factoring. In reading we will start using our depth of complexity icons more and diving deeper into the text. Response to Literature is a piece of writing that will consist of five paragraphs and a deep analysis of a piece of literature. Missions and California Indians are on the horizon in Social Studies.
Make some new goals and as of right now all have straight “A”s. You just have to keep ‘em.

How to log into ThinkCentral
——————————————————————–
This is a screencast of how to log into the math curriculum’s online math component. Students can log in at home or at the library and practice their math with an online version of their book, an iTools manipulative piece to practice those concepts that need that visual understanding. This screencast will show you how to log in and briefly highlight some of the components you can use to help with your math skills.
Students should know their log in for this site, but in case they have forgotten it is their lunch code beginning with a lower case “r”, for example “r1234″. This will be both for username and password.

Once you walk in you will see anything and everything you will need to help your child at home. I have included the website link and the map to get there below.

Math Fact Practice Website
——————————————————————–

This website is a site I have used to help students with their math facts. The students are timed and given a percentage correct at the end of the drill. This has helped students with speed and accuracy of basic math facts. You can get to the website by clicking here or by going to the link on the sidebar titled “Support Links”.

Also, do not forget to take the Technology Survey to let us know some valuable information about technology accessibility at home. You can take the survey by clicking here.

Scholastic Book Orders
——————————————————————–
Hello Parents,
This year all Scholastic Book ordering will be done online. It is an easier way to make your order. You can make the transaction yourself at home. Yes, this will be easier for me also, since I will not be handling any monies and checks that come to school. The books ordered online will still be sent to the school and will be distributed when they arrive.
The due date for the September book order is September 15, 2009. You can visit the Scholastic Website by clicking here. Once on the site you can enter “seliskar” for both user name and password and then start ordering.
May this be easier for you as well for me.
Thank you,
Mr. Seliskar
